Load factors range from 50% to > 100% within networks, reflecting levels of redundancy. In the various parts of a network different load factors are use to achieve a cost-effective security standard, usually N-1 or N-2.   • Smart Transformers - The aging power grid, increasing energy demands, distributed generation and the envi-ronment all point toward the need for a smart grid. Transformers serve as a hub for collection and distribution of energy and are key components of a smart grid.
  • MEPS and Energy Efficiency - After thermal losses in generation, losses in transmission and distribution net-works constitute the single biggest loss in any electricity system and 70% of these losses occur in the distribu-tion network. Government regulations and programmes to reduce losses with energy efficient distribution transformers are outlined for different regions, with analysis of the amorphous distribution transformer indus-try and market uptake.
  • Logistics - Power transformers can be the size of a house and weigh 400-500 tons. They often have to be transported large distances over difficult terrain with poor roads, underpasses and overpasses and limited load weight limits. Getting a large power transformer to site can involve over 10% of the final installed cost. For LPTs, the parameters of the move must be incorporated at the design stage before manufacture. Logistics problems and solutions are discussed with the engineering team together with their implications for trans-formers and for total cost.

Utility Analysis of Distribution Transformers Ed 1 - 2020

The Utility Analysis of Distribution Transformers is an optional database which lists 899 electricity transmis-sion and 7,188 distribution utilities by country, with the size of their customer bases and numbers of distri-bution transformers, totaling 2,217 million electricity customers globally. There are 151.3 million distribu-tion transformers in the world, of which 120.8 million are owned by utilities and 30.5 million by industry or other non-utility owners. This Utility Analysis of DTs represents the 120.8 million DTs owned by utilities.

The Utility Analysis provides data about the utilities, their customer base and transformer population. The purpose of the Utility Analysis of Distribution Transformers is to provide a tool to analyse the world popula-tion of distribution transformers in distribution utilities by country and size, to segment and target utility markets to implement plans arising from the Transformer Report.

This database is a practical resource for marketers of equipment, technology or services for electricity transmission and distribution utilities.
