Water Management is an integral part of people's day-to-day lives. With the increasing consumer demand for air travel and the growing concerns regarding passenger comfort, aircraft water management hereby becomes an important part of flight management facilities which are now integrated onboard. The aircraft potable water systems form an integral part of the aircraft water management facility. Potable water is supplied to an aircraft through a system of potable water tanks which are predominantly transported across airport ground services via tankers. Certain terminals are known to have a water cabinet that is connected directly to airport facilities. The water tanks are designed in such a way that they have a low profile, i.e. they can fit under the aircraft wing. The supply hose of the truck is connected to a check valve by making use of a coupling. Once the connection is deemed secure, the flow of the water is initiated. Water is pumped from the truck to the potable water tank which is located in the air fuselage.

The tank is fitted with a level sensor to alert the aircraft staff and airport facilities about the remaining water within a given aircraft. The water facility is connected via an array of pipes that are lined with heat trace wiring to prevent freezing of the lines in low-temperature conditions. Sinks, basins, and aircraft galleys are noted to be the regions in which potable water is supplied. However, it is noted that modern aircraft washroom facilities make use of a vacuum, which uses little to no water, thus conserving its usage. Any water used across the restrooms in aircraft is held in a sewage holding tank which is later processed.

The implementation of showers in long-haul flights as a luxury option is another notable trend within this market. However, these showers are noted to be timed to limit the flow as well as usage of water.

For instance, the Airbus A350's high potable water quality water treatment module controls continuous sterilization during water circulation after filling. A potable water treatment module for the Airbus A350 has been developed that employs ultraviolet (UV) light to reduce the possibility of microbiological contamination of the system. The use of this technology is poised to reduce maintenance and water processing costs owing to the extended interval provided by its introduction.
