This IDC PlanScape provides BYOD decision imperatives organizations must work through in four key areas: understanding worker populations, creating BYOD policies, evaluating technology, and evaluating services solutions. In addition, we provide guidance on which key stakeholders in the organization should be involved in BYOD policy creation, education, and enforcement. Finally, we provide actionable advice on how an organization can maximize the potential for a successful BYOD program. Overall, IDC believes companies can and should leverage BYOD to their advantage. By enabling a greater population of employees to be productive anytime and anywhere, the organization can be more agile in responding to both internal and external needs. However, expanding mobile access to a broader set of users on non-IT-owned assets also requires an organization to create a set of policies to govern the use of these devices in the corporate environment. Failure to do so can seriously impact the risk and compliance posture of the organization."BYOD programs are an incredibly valuable and versatile resource for all companies when deployed correctly," says Bryan Bassett, research manager, Enterprise Mobility at IDC.
