Alumina Trihydrate, also known as Alumina Hydrate/Hydrate Alumina, ATH (Aluminum Tri Hydroxide), Aluminum Hydroxide, and Aluminum Hydrate is an odorless white powder. Although it exhibits very low solubility in water, alumina trihydrate is amphoteric, which means that it will dissolve in acid or strong alkali. Alumina Trihydrate is majorly produced through the Bayer process where the bauxite (Aluminum Ore) is dissolved in sodium hydroxide at high temperatures. After the reaction, alumina trihydrate is removed/separated from the remaining solids. These remaining solids are highly toxic and present environmental issues.
