The GCC dairy market grew by more than 50% during 2007-2012 reaching US$5.8 billion in 2012. Saudi Arabia is the biggest dairy consumer among GCC states, accounting for 74% of the market volume. The largest dairy product category in GCC is fresh unflavoured white milk with 41% volume share, followed by laban at 21%. In terms of market value, cheese is the leading category with 22% value share, closely followed by fresh unflavoured white milk.
