This new report from SpecialtyTransportation.net examines the business of insulated/refrigerated van trailer manufacture in North America.
Insulated trailers are designed for transportation of commodities at controlled temperatures. A majority of insulated trailers are equipped with a refrigeration unit; insulated van trailers without refrigeration units are estimated to account for only 10% of the total. Insulated trailers without heating or cooling units are used when the product transported needs moderate temperature control, while bodies with heater units are used to deliver temperature-sensitive products such as flowers and electronics in places with sub-zero temperatures.
The refrigerated trailer market is relatively a more stable segment when compared to other van categories such as dry-freight, as it caters to core requirements-food and health care products. The food industry weathers downturns better than most other industries and therefore, while demand for refrigerated van trailers is affected by general economic downturns, it is less elastic than other trailer categories.
STN identified nine manufacturers of these types of trailers in North America in 2012. Production is concentrated in the hands of a few manufacturers, with the top three accounting for close to 90% of total production.
The report includes estimates of 2012 production numbers and market shares, an overview of the broad competitive picture, demand outlook for the industry, and brief profiles of manufacturers.
These and other topics are the subject of this report from SpecialtyTransportation.net ("STN"). The report can be put to immediate use for sales and market planning, M&A identification, competitive share analysis, alliances and technology transfer considerations.
