Executive Summary:

2-EH is produced by aldol condensation of n-butyraldehyde followed by dehydration and hydrogenation. 2-EH is used in various end use industries paints and coatings, adhesives construction and others. The LP Oxo technology is the world's leading technology for production of 2-ethylhexanol from n-butyraldehyde. 2-EH finds its application in production of 2-EH acrylates, 2-EH Nitrate and dioctyl phthalate (DOP) plasticizer. DOP Plasticizers account for the largest share in 2-EH market followed by 2-EH acrylate and 2-EH Nitrate. The growth of 2-EH has been hampered due to government regulation on the usage of DOP due to health hazards and environmental concerns. 2-EH Acrylates and nitrates account are the major growth drivers currently accounting for more than 65% of total 2-EH market in the European region.

Asia-Pacific accounts for the major market of 2-EH with an estimated demand share of 60-70 % of total followed by North America and Western Europe. Asian market is driven by growing demand for industrial plasticizers in countries like China, India and South-East Asia. Owing to rapid industrialization, the growth is anticipated to be higher in growing economies. Global 2-EH market is likely to witness a CAGR of about 5% in the long-term forecast till 2025.
