目次

The Central and Eastern European data centre market keeps on growing. And it is not all about colocation and the creation of huge telehousing facilities. Other services, ranging from server hosting and IaaS to more advanced managed services are starting to play a more significant role in the data centre sales mix too. Commercial data centres in CEE are also increasingly becoming a disaster recovery option for financial institutions and major e-businesses. The market has always seen interest from the side of foreign investors. Latest major acquisitions of data centre operators from CEE countries include those by British Telecity and German Deutsche Telekom. It is only the beginning, especially that telecoms - seeking to counterbalance diminishing revenues from the core business - increasingly start to offer commercial data centre services to broaden a portfolio of services for the B2B sector.

Extract from this report

  • According to PMR estimates the combined value of the data centre market in CEE totalled at €627m in 2014, which was a growth of 13% in comparison with 2013. Although the market dynamics somewhat diminished and was the lowest over the last five years, the market maintained the positive double-digit growth rate experienced in 2010-2013.
  • According to PMR calculations all of the commercial data centre facilities in the CEE region were able to offer as much as 144,000 m2 of the server room surface for their clients at the end of 2014. We cautiously estimate that two thirds of that was actually occupied. The total gross surface of all the commercial facilities in CEE, excluding offices and disaster recovery space, was twice as high.
  • Despite the fact that the market in terms of value has been constantly slowing down, there should be emphasised that still approx. 10,000 m2 of the net floor surface of server rooms has been added annually in the last three years in CEE. According to the largest regional data centre providers PMR canvassed, a significant part of the recent projects aimed at enhancing current and building new facilities, especially if those are data centres of the capacity exceeding 1,500 m2 assume an increasing demand for colocation and other data centre services from the side of foreign companies.
