目次

This report introduces readers to Poland's most significant public hospitals using detailed profiles that highlight medical services specialties, contracts with the NFZ and size in terms of numbers of beds overall and in specialty care wards. It also includes a saturation analysis of medical services by voivodship and updates on the regulatory environment and planned investment on this market.

The report includes necessary information on digitisation of hospitals and their adjustment to requirements laid down by other laws and regulations. The report shows the most urgent problems and opportunities of the sector from the perspective of practitioners - management staff of more than 200 hospitals surveyed by PMR. In addition, it extensively discusses the matter of completed and potential hospital transformations into companies and the effects of such actions.

The analysis of the public hospitals market is a necessary tool for investors (service providers) who want to check the saturation with services in a given region. It is also crucial for equipment and drug suppliers, as well as consulting or IT companies.

The document is accompanied by a database that includes records for approx. 600 public hospitals currently operating in Poland. It supplies total bed counts, units, specialty ward bed totals and more.

This report focuses on key market issues:

  • Top medical services and specialisations of Poland's largest public hospitals
  • Major regulations that apply to this market
  • Total number of public hospitals in Poland and their locations
  • Total beds in specialty wards, types of wards available at each hospital
  • Planned and pending hospital transformations to privately owned and operated facilities
  • Detailed profiles of the largest public hospitals in each voivodship
  • Saturation of specific medical services in major Polish cities and in each voivodship
  • Expected growth of specific medical specialty services to 2020
  • Planned investments in public hospitals in Poland for 2015-2020
  • Funding public hospitals in Poland - investment options
  • Value of National Health Fund (NFZ) contracts held by public hospitals in Poland
  • The largest hospitals in Poland presented in total and excluding neonatology and long-term care, also featuring the ranking of the largest hospitals by contract value - by voivodship, as well as information on the biggest hospitals in individual voivodships
  • Information on the number of hospitalisations by hospital type (in terms of ownership
  • Key events and trends , also taking into consideration the result of the last parliamentary elections in Poland
  • The report features a section on digitisation - a deadline for hospitals to adapt to the requirements of running electronic records, e-registration, etc. is slowly approaching. In a survey conducted among management staff of public hospitals by PMR specifically for the purposes of the report, PMR asked hospitals about the stage of their work in this respect and the amount of budget they intended to allocate to that purpose - in total and in 2016
  • Information on the scope of use of electronic invoicing system and e-order form in public hospitals in Poland.

The analysis of the hospital market by voivodship comprises new, useful ratios:

  • information on hospitals that were transformed in a given voivodship in the past 18 months
  • comparison with the situation in the non-public hospitals market
  • number of hospitals, number of beds in hospitals by voivodship
  • shares of individual voivodships in the number of hospitals, number of beds
  • population per hospital bed ratio, by voivodship.

The report presents facts and figures about public hospitals, such as:

  • The idea of hospital referral levels is now ever more often abandoned.
  • In 2013, a record number of hospital transformations into commercial law companies were implemented.
  • The largest hospital in Poland by number of beds is Szpital Uniwersytecki in Krakow.
  • Investments in equipment in 2016-2018 are planned by 89% of public hospitals.
  • A vast majority of respondents refer to problems receiving the NFZ funding for the services provided as the main growth barrier.
  • Contrary to the non-public hospitals segment, in none of the voivodships the number of hospitals is higher than 100.
  • As revealed by surveys conducted specifically for the purposes of the report, fewer and fewer public hospitals are planning transformations. The decrease results, first of all, from the fact that some hospitals have already been transformed. What is more, some other facilities are not eligible for transformation at the moment because of good financial results.

The report describes public hospitals active on the market, including...
