Extract from this report

  • The data centre market in CEE has been strongly evolving in the last years, trying to catch up with the global industry trends. At present, the key features of the data centre market in the CEE include:
    • early stage of development - not as mature market as in Western Europe but growing more dynamically
    • tendency to set up small, basic level, and in-house data centre facilities - most DC requirements are retail colocation focused
    • fragmented market but first signs of local consolidation
    • major strategic foreign investors are not present yet.
  • An important factor for the data centre services development is a constant dynamic increase of IP traffic. According to latest forecasts by Cisco, the global data centre IP traffic will increase fourfold in 2011-2015, which means a CAGR of 33%. The forecast includes trends associated with data centre virtualisation and cloud computing. In nominal terms, annual global data centre IP traffic will reach 4.8 zettabytes or 402 exabytes per month by the end of 2015. Over the same period, global cloud IP traffic will reach 1.6 zettabytes or 133 exabytes per month.

Word from the author

“Cisco has recently presented its latest IP traffic projections. The company now expects the annual global data centre traffic to quadruple by the end of 2015 to reach 4.8 zettabytes, which means a CAGR of 33% in 2011-2015. One of the key trends Cisco has pointed out is market transition towards managed and cloud services. 2014 is expected to be a pivotal year, when workloads processed in cloud data centres will exceed those processed in traditional data centres for the first time.”

“Data centre, virtualization and cloud services are closely connected areas of the ICT market at the moment and offer significant growth potential to its providers. Central and Eastern Europe follows the global trends and the market of data centres is expanding rapidly.” Pawel Olszynka, IT&Telecom Head Analyst.
