Market commentary by expert

Primarily in 2013 and, to a lesser degree, in 2014, the Polish telecommunications market was deeply affected by regulatory changes that impacted first of all the wholesale market of mobile telephony services. However, it should be noted that in the wholesale segment revenue drops were experienced not only by the operators active on the mobile telephony market. They were also recorded on the markets of fixed-line telephony and wholesale line rental. For this reason it is impossible to understand the changes taking place throughout the telecommunications market in Poland in the last two years without analysing the wholesale market. In 2013 and 2014 not only the carrier segment contributed to decreases in the total market value. A similar situation, although on a much smaller scale, was observed on the market of telecommunications services targeted at the business segment. However, the carriers have been attempting to increase their revenue generated by their core services in the B2B segment by means of various types of value-added services. In the segment of fixed-line voice services those are, for example, diverse hosted services. In the mobile segment M2M solutions represent a prime example, and in the DLISP segment - IP VPN. Because of all of those factors the business market has some characteristic features setting it apart from the mass market. Therefore an in-depth analysis of both markets, wholesale and business, is essential for the understanding of the developments taking place on the Polish telecommunications market as a whole.
