Fog computing can be defined as a computing infrastructure which is decentralized and resources & application services are distributed logically from the data sources to the cloud. Fog computing size in 2016 was approximately $9.3 million. The growing adoption of internet of things globally is increasing the global fog computing market. As fog computing increase the cloud capabilities by offering unique solutions to the edge of the network. The growing demand of real-time interaction with incoming data and the limited bandwidth availability are driving the fog computing market.

Fog computing market application segment have wide sub segments such as building and home automation, smart manufacturing, smart energy, smart cities, smart grid, transportation and logistics, connected health and security & emergence. Fog computing provides real time analytics and informed decision on driving patterns Fog computing reduce the amount of data to be transferred to the cloud storage, as it provide cloud nodes. In June 2016, IBM Corporation and Cisco Systems together joined for a partnership to integrate the Watson's IoT cloud software with Cisco fog computing platform. In October 2016, Intel Corporation launched new Intel atom processor E3900 series for enabling next generation of smart and connected IoT devices. In September 2016, SAP SE acquired PLAT ONE to make enterprises and system integrators to make IoT-enabled applications.
