MNOs' enterprise offers have traditionally comprised communications and connectivity solutions, for example mobile broadband, mobile VPN, virtual PABX and unified communications. With the advent of reliable and widespread broadband in developed markets, more enterprises are virtualising core IT functions, most commonly by direct outsourcing to specialist companies or purchasing scalable, on-demand ICT services delivered via the internet. An example would be an enterprise that chooses Google Apps over Microsoft Office for its document creation, storage, backup, e-mail, shared calendars and conferencing needs... for a low, fixed annual price per seat, with no capital expenditure or depreciation concerns, or time-consuming installation and management requirements.
Increasing complexity, operational and cost reduction demands have put pressure on enterprise ICT managers to reduce the number of suppliers they work with. This creates an opportunity for MNOs, which have pre-existing and often long-standing relationships with enterprises for the essential business service of mobile telephony and messaging. This is potentially a strong foundation for MNOs to sell solutions to enterprises that require workforce mobility to manage information and improve employee efficiency and utilisation.
This report examines a selection of MNOs' enterprise propositions that extend beyond mobile broadband, messaging and IP-PBX service classes and into areas traditionally served by IT solutions companies. Continued pressure on revenues from traditional sources coupled with predictions of growth in spending on ICT, particularly for areas such as workforce mobilisation and virtualisation combine to make this report essential reading for MNOs with an enterprise base that wish to maximise return from this area of opportunity.
