The North American food safety testing market is dominated by the U.S. The market in this country is projected to grow at a CAGR of 7.5% from 2015 to 2020. The development of this market is aided by the changing consumption pattern, large outbreaks of foodborne illness, new food safety science, and identification of new risks. The U.S. has been using LRN to respond to biological, chemical threats, and other public health emergencies. It has been deployed to develop, retain, and reinforce linkage between national and international network of laboratories. Labs have been performing definitive testing with its confirmation through designated reference laboratories to test hazardous agents such as B. anthracis, and C. botulinum toxin. In the U.S., the biggest outbreak has been caused by Salmonella that has been increasing due to consumption of fecal contaminated food.

The spread of food safety information in North America has been encouraged by the availability of new testing technologies. Consumers and regulatory bodies have scrutinized food firms to provide more information about pathogens in their products. This has assisted in setting food safety regulations and developing specificity of demand. The protection of domestic consumer's health and assurance of exported food safety and quality has been approved by the National Food Control System. Although food safety has shown alarming signs across the world, some of the countries have been negligent on testing food for contaminants. The governments therefore need to take vital steps to set food safety testing mechanisms. This situation can also be tackled by the growing efforts of regulations, companies, and partners of the food safety system.

The North American food safety testing market was dominated by Bio-Rad Laboratories, Inc. (U.S.), SGS S.A. (Switzerland), Intertek Group Plc. (U.K.), (Eurofins Scientific (Luxembourg), Silliker Inc. (U.S.), Intertek Group Plc (U.K.), Bureau Veritas S.A. (France), Iddex Laboratories (U.S.), and DNV GL (Norway) with respect to their revenue generated in 2014. These companies accounted to a market share of nearly 80% with respect to their revenue. Other players include Eurofins Scientific SE (Luxembourg), Lloyd Register Quality Assurance Limited (U.K.), Silliker Inc. (U.S.), and Romer Labs (U.S.).
