APCs are increasingly used as an alternative to manual passenger counting in North America and Europe to generate and study the ridership trends and patterns. Trains are an important mode of public transport in these region and most APC systems installed in trains are a part of a larger ITS solution. Many new rail vehicles in the region come with an integrated APC system, which is a part of a comprehensive ITS solution.
