Changing demographics, growing economies, increased disposable income and the rise in international and business travel have all contributed to the burgeoning travel retail sector.

Unsurprisingly much of the growth has come from the emerging economies, a trend set to continue in the coming years.

Diageo's Global Travel and Middle East managing director, Roland Abella, told just-drinks and the IWSR that "The emerging market consumers are going to be a massive opportunity for the industry as they begin flying around the world in greater numbers."

Camus' area director Richard Ferne says of the Asian market: "The Chinese are taking over... It's really being driven by the Chinese everywhere you go."

However, there still remains plenty of opportunity for travel retail to grow in the markets of the more mature economies.
