Well, the answer is yes! There are caveats however, according to the ONLY cloud native network functions (CNF) market forecast in town!

In theory, the value-proposition of containers is crystal clear - ridding the network function of the unwanted overheads of the VM, providing exceptional levels of functional fine-graining through microservices and extracting the fullest from the underlying computing infrastructure by taking the bare metal route of deployment.

In practice however, these seemingly straightforward considerations are exerted to a sustained onslaught by the combined forces of telco-inertia, apprehension and genuine concerns surrounding performance and product-readiness. This potent combination of almost equally poised positives and challenges makes the CNF landscape a very exciting and intriguing landscape to forecast.

Another aspect that needs to be understood in the context of CNFs is that this market will not add to the lure of VNFs. Quite to the contrary, it will cannibalize the VNFs. In essence, CNFs can be looked upon as an outcome of the telco disillusionment with VNFs to an extent.
