当レポートでは、ロシアの製鉄企業NKMK(Novokuznetsk Integrated Iron-and-Steel Works）について、生産量、生産効率、財務状況など各種の詳細情報をまとめており、概略下記の構成でお届けいたします。
This report is available both in Russian and English versions.
Novokuznetsk Integrated Iron-and-Steel Works, located in Novokuznetsk, Kemerovo region, Western Siberia, was commissioned in 1932. JSC NKMK, formed in May 2003, commenced steel operations in October 2003 having acquired certain property, plant and equipment from JSC Kuznetsk Integrated Iron and Steel Works ("KMK") for a consideration of U.S.$45 million subsequent to the dissolution of the latter in bankruptcy proceedings in June 2003. EvrazHolding officially controls and manages NKMK since December 1, 2003. The Evraz Group's effective interest in NKMK as of 31 December 2008 amounted to 100.00%.
NKMK is Integrated Steel Works with an annual rolling capacity of 2 mln. Tonnes. In volume of crude and rolled steel output in Russia among integrated steelmakers, NKMK is at the last place. In 2009, the company produced 1.4 mln t crude steel - 2.4% of total Russian production.
NKMK's production facilities include a coal-tar chemical plant, blast furnace facilities, steelmaking facilities with two continuous casters, a rail and structural mill, long-rolling production and plate rolling mill.
NKMK is the main Russian supplier of rails of wide range of types, according to Russian standards. The Works is one of the five largest rail producers in the world. NKMK's output of rails accounts for approximately two-thirds of the Russian rail production. A special flaw detection technology is used at NKMK to guarantee the full compliance of the produced rails with the international quality standards. It also produces billet, bar, HR plate.
NKMK productive capacities became obsolete and worn by the end of the 20th century, and a long-term concept of the Works development approved that time, provided for the production development and modernisation, aimed at introducing manufacture of high-competitive and high-value-added products, meeting international grade standards, increasing the business effectiveness, including social and environmental effectiveness and responsibility, expanding markets of the company's products.
But realization of these measures began only several years ago. The upgrading measures are aimed at improving grade and expanding mix of products, meeting international standards, with removing from service obsolete equipment, introducing new processes and management methods, structural optimization, penetration into new markets, sustainable development of the business with improving social and natural environment in the territory.
Being formally Integrated Iron-and-Steel Works, NKMK now doesn't operate blast furnace production (the last blast furnace was removed from service in response to the global crisis and resulted decreasing demand for ferrous metallurgy products). Iron for NKMK is manufactured at ZapSib. Strictly speaking, since 2009 NKMK is not Integrated Works with complete metallurgical cycle.
Now NKMK is a subsidiary of the Evraz Group S.A.
