About ASICs

ASICs are customized circuits. An ASIC is developed with custom logic that is application specific. Licensed microprocessors and memory cores may be included in an ASIC to allow limited software programmability through the modification of software algorithms on the microprocessor. Each ASIC has a targeted function used by a single customer in a single application. ASICs are often referred to as standard cells. They are used in communications, automotive, consumer electronics, computers, and industrial applications.
