About Programmable Logic Devices (PLD)

A PLD is a semiconductor logic block that is used to develop reconfigurable circuits. A PLD can be reprogrammed any number of times, which is advantageous for end-users when developing new circuitry on a trial and error basis. The reprogramming is possible because the devices are based on re-writeable memory technology through which they provide the flexibility to change the design and the ease to reprogram. Though PLDs can be reprogrammed later, they have to be programmed initially before placing them in the circuitry. The most commonly used PLD is a field-programmable gate array. PLDs find applications across several sectors such as Consumer Electronics, Automotive, Data Computing, Industrial, and Telecom.
