This IDC Perspective looks explicitly at the active type of exoskeleton suits. Robotic technology is making its way into business processes across industries and providing human workers with flexible automation capabilities that have never before been so widely available. While much of robotic innovation has focused on automating tasks that otherwise would be performed by human workers, not all robotic technology is designed for automation. Moving beyond the focus on automation, and instead focusing on human augmentation, several vendors exist that are competing in the space of robotic-enabled powered exoskeleton suits."Exoskeleton technology is something that is specifically designed to enhance human performance, while at the same time is built to reduce the risk of injury to human workers," says John Santagate, research director for Service Robotics at IDC. "Companies have been innovating for many years with the end goal of delivering to market exoskeleton technology that can enhance human life. We are seeing this vision come to life today and can only imagine how continuous innovation in this field will impact the future."
