This IDC study examines the Asia/Pacific (excluding Japan) (APEJ) Big Data services market for the period 2012-2017. IDC expects the Big Data services market grow from US$228.16 million in 2013 to US$644.75 million in 2017. As per IDC estimates, in 2013 services constituted 30% of total Big Data revenue (which include infrastructure, software, and services revenues across several subsegments). The document also covers five prominent vendors in the region and analyzes their services offerings.
"IDC has observed that most Big Data projects in the region have been for analysis of existing internal assets of structured and unstructred data. For these engagements it is important for organizations to understand their data architectures, metadata management strategy, as well as governance and controls to be implemented from a regulations and compliance perspective," says Mayur Sahni, senior research manager, IDC APEJ Cloud and IT Services. "The primary driver for Big Data professional services is to help the CIOs and LoBs come together on the business case and leverage the same for driving business outcomes. Strong project management, the ability to provide the right set of skills, and the ability to commit to outcomes are the key selection criteria in selecting vendors. Few of the existing vendors are able to offer this in Asia, yet the directional path is toward building these capabilities," adds Prabhitha Sheethal, market analyst, IDC APEJ IT services. This IDC report is not to be consumed as an overall recommendation for vendor selection. However, CIOs may refer to this study to get a snapshot view of how potential partners are placed.
