This IDC study analyzes the results the latest IDC European Vertical Markets Survey, focusing on primary channels for IT purchases, the criteria used to choose IT suppliers, and satisfaction with IT vendors across vertical markets. The IDC European Vertical Markets Survey was carried out between August and September 2013 in the top 5 Western European countries (France, Germany, Italy, Spain, and the U.K.) among 1,651 companies with more than 10 employees. The vertical markets include financial services, process manufacturing, discrete manufacturing, healthcare, telecom/media, utilities/oil and gas, retail/wholesale, professional services/transport, and government/education.

"A slow recovery will characterize the IT budget scenario in 2014, with a cautious optimism leading companies to carefully invest and look for the best channel that could propose a suitable advanced offering at a reasonable price," said Andrea Siviero, research analyst, IDC European Industry Solutions. "An increasing percentage of shadow IT and the disruptive adoption of cloud-based solutions led independent software vendors to take the leading role among primary IT channels."
