In 2012, the capacity of global lithium battery market was 33.5GWH with the growth rate of 30%; of which, the consumer electronics accounted for 88%, electric vehicles accounted for 11%, and energy storage and UPS accounted for 1%. The growth rate of consumer electronics was 23%, which was relatively stable.

In 2012, due to the rapid development of smart phones and tablet PCs, the output of global lithium-ion battery industry increased by about 8% over 2011, and reached 5.724 billion units. Of which, the output of consumer electronics lithium battery was 5.03 billion units. In 2012, the output of China-made lithium-ion battery (including the output of Japanese and South Korean enterprises in China) reached 2.5 billion units, increased by 10% year-on-year. Of which, the output of consumer electronics lithium battery was 1.93 billion units.

Huidian Research believes that in the next five years, the traditional small lithium-ion battery will show steady growth trend driven by the development of tablet PCs and ultrabooks; power battery and energy storage battery will become new growth points in the lithium-ion battery industry.

It is estimated that by 2017, the scale of Chins' lithium battery market will reach CNY 197.58 billion, and the compound growth rate is expected to reach over 30%; of which, the scale of consumer electronics lithium battery market will reach CNY 138.3 billion.
