当レポートでは、ネットワークセキュリティに関する展開計画、促進要因・課題、および予算編成など10項目の質問について調査しています。
The majority of communication service providers (CSPs) in this month's Thought Leadership Council (TLC) forum believe their company is doing either a good or excellent job with network security planning. Nevertheless, more than 80 percent of panelists are either extremely concerned or concerned that advanced devices, such as 5G phones and the Internet of things (IoT), will be infected with malware and used to launch complex attack vectors.
More than 70 percent of TLC panelists say that distributed denial-of-service (DDoS) attacks are a critical concern, while about 65 percent say illegal intercept is of critical concern. To combat these and other security concerns, the majority of panelists are relying most heavily upon network functions virtualization (NFV) and software-defined networking (SDN), as well as analytics.
The TLC is a unique Heavy Reading initiative founded in August 2017, in which a panel of highly targeted CSPs participate in strategic research. TLC members receive private invitations to take part in anonymous surveys, which enables them to provide insights that might otherwise go undisclosed.
The focus group covered in “Thought Leadership Council: CSPs Concerned About Impact of Future Tech on Security ” was asked 10 questions about deployment plans, drivers and challenges and budgeting for network security. The results clearly indicate that CSPs feel their companies are currently doing a good job with network security; however, there are several new technologies and services that must be addressed in order to maintain necessary levels of network security.
TLC members were asked to grade their company's overall network security plan. Results are shown in the following excerpt. A plurality of panelists, 41 percent, gave their companies a "C," or average. One such CSP said, "We have good network security, but our security solutions market share is small. Advanced security offers are not well integrated into our network offers."
