South and Central America, Middle East and African Regions are Expected to be Emerging Hydropower Markets by 2020

There is significant hydropower potential in the Middle East and Africa, and South and Central America. African countries such as Mozambique and Ethiopia have substantial untapped hydropower potential, and the main sources of hydropower in the African region are Abay known as Blue Nile, the Shebele, and the Omo. Other potential sources are river Tekeze, Awash, Baro, Genale, and Mereb. However, a lack of proper infrastructure and lack of investments do not provide adequate support to the maintenance and renewal of existing hydropower plants, which has led to the slow growth of the African hydropower market.
