Abstract

Waste to Energy projects for disposal of MSW are a relatively new concept in India. Although these have been tried and tested in developed countries with positive results, these are yet to prove their success in India largely because of the fact that financial and commercial viability is still being tested. Municipal Solid Waste (MSW) contains organic as well as inorganic matter. The latent energy present in its organic fraction can be recovered for gainful utilization through adoption of suitable waste processing and treatment technologies.
