In 2015, the Thai economy showed signs of recovery. Annual growth in real GDP rose from 1% in 2014 to nearly 3% in 2015. However, growth was still slower than expected and far below the peak record in 2012, of 8%. Consumer confidence declined significantly in the first half of the year. Particularly, the bombing in Bangkok in August 2015 shook consumer confidence. According to Trading Economics, the consumer confidence index dipped to 72 in August 2015, the lowest level in 13 months.
