In 2016, alcoholic drinks in Turkey declined in total volume terms, and at a stronger rate than the average annual decline over the review period. All major categories bar whiskies posted a decline in total volume terms in 2016. Following rises in excise taxes in the last two years of the review period, there was a lower increase in the average unit price of whiskies compared to the rises in many other categories, which resulted in increased demand for these products.
