Highlights

Chinese production of office furniture in values increased three times in the last decade and currently surpassed US$ 14 billion. With a 15% average yearly production growth in the 2006-2014 period (+11% yearly in local currency) the country overtook the United States as the leading office furniture manufacturer.

China. Main destinations for furniture exports

Export is in excess of 30 million chairs and two million office desks per year.

Chinese office furniture companies focus on domestic expansion.

Only looking at the major cities, 2.78 million square meters of new office space are expected in 2015, and further 4.18 million square meters are predicted to be completed by 2016.

Despite the huge output produced annually the Chinese office furniture sector shows a definitely high level of fragmentation. Combined market share of the top ten players reached about 11% of the total production in values. According to the 2015 CSIL survey, on a sample of 100 office furniture manufacturers, just 10 companies totalled turnover in excess of US$ 100 million in 2014 and just two of them surpassed US$ 200 million sales.
