Introduction

Yellow phosphorus is a kind of basic chemical, and it is also a sort of high energy consumption and pollution product. Most developed countries have stopped producing yellow phosphorus. Therefore, a great deal of yellow phosphorus has to be transported from origins to destinations. Then, the global trade of yellow phosphorus has turned out to be an attractive subject to most of the exporters and importers of yellow phosphorus; the main questions they are concerned that are listed as follows:

Firstly, what's the production situation of yellow phosphorus in main suppliers which are Kazakhstan, Vietnam, China, the US and the Netherlands.

Secondly, what's the situation of the global trade of yellow phosphorus and how is it transported from origins to destinations? Yellow phosphorus is a hazardous chemical, and it is strict in transportation with high cost.

Thirdly, what's the trend of global trade of yellow phosphorus?

To answer these questions, CCM has carried out research on global yellow phosphorus market and find out the answers to the following questions in this report:

  • What is the production situation of yellow phosphorus in major producing countries in 2011 and the following five years, as well as policies?
  • What is the global yellow phosphorus flow in 2011?
  • What are the major package ways for transportation of yellow phosphorus and what are their proportions?
  • What are the influencing factors to the global trade of yellow phosphorus?
  • What are the opportunities in the yellow phosphorus industry in the future?

Executive Summary

Nowadays, the global trade of yellow phosphorus has been concentrated in a few countries. Kazakhstan, Vietnam, China and the US are the major exporters of yellow phosphorus, whose export volume accounts for about XX% of the world's total export volume in 2011, while Germany, Japan, Poland, Brazil and India are the top import countries, sharing about XX% of the total global import volume. The three major exporters, China, Kazakhstan and Vietnam, are deepening their value chain of yellow phosphorus and as a result, the transaction of yellow phosphorus all over the world is facing a shrinking trend.

The total capacity of yellow phosphorus in the world has not increased a lot in the past five years, growing from XXXt/a in 2006 to XXXt/a in 2011 and most of the newly added capacity comes from China. The fast expansion from 2009 to 2010 in China can be considered as a result of the implementation of yellow phosphorus industry admittance, which drives some small enterprises to raise their capacity to meet the new criteria. Moreover, the capacity in Vietnam has also developed very fast in the past few years, which is mainly contributed to the soaring price of yellow phosphorus in China. And in the mean time, Vietnam has become the second largest exporter of yellow phosphorus in the world.

The total transaction volume of yellow phosphorus in the world is only XXX tonnes in 2010 and XXX tonnes in 2011, just accounting for about 10% of the total output, if re-export is not taken into consideration, the real transaction volume may be even lower and less than 10% of the total output. Because yellow phosphorus is mostly used as raw materials for other products, yellow phosphorus is exported through downstream products to some extent. For example, China, who used to export the most yellow phosphorus in the world, has just exported XXX tonnes in 2011, only accounting for less than XX% of its total output. Moreover, the two developing countries, Kazakhstan and Vietnam, are also trying to develop domestic downstream industry of yellow phosphorus and reduce the export of yellow phosphorus. Because yellow phosphorus is combustible, most of the global trades are made among the neighboring countries. For instance, Vietnam mainly exports yellow phosphorus to XXX and XXX while Kazakhstan mainly exports products to XXX.
