Mogroside V, the major sweet component of luo han guo, is almost extracted from luo han guo fresh fruit. And its sweetness is about 350 times sweeter than that of sucrose. Luo han guo, China's unique planting fruit, its planting area has reached about 8,000 ha as of now.

As of 2010, mogrosides (typically extracted from monk fruit) have been used in commercial products after the Food and Drug Administration's aprroval, the demand for mogroside V is increasing year by year. That's because people are paying more and mroe attention to food safety and prefer to choose natural sweetener with low sugar and low calorie, combining with its good taste, mogroside V is the most ideal natural sweetener currently. To cater to consumer's health notion, downstream industrial giants like Coca Cola, Pepsi, Nestle, Cargill, P&G are showing constantly attention for China's mogroside V industry as China is the largest producer and exporter of mogroside V. China's output of mogroside V has exceeded 200 tonnes in 2014 and more than 90% of total domestic output in China has been exported to the US and Japan.
