The Chinese bathroom market grew mildly in 2017 due to the slowing down of new dwelling completion and the rapid growth of sales to housing RMI and fully renovated housing projects. The sales of bathroom products in the housing RMI segment grew quickly driven by the improvement of income, growth of young consumers, the middle class and the ending lifespan of housing built 10 to 20 years ago. The acceleration of urbanization and the improvement of infrastructure and housing conditions in tier three to tier four cities and vast rural areas boosted the demands for modern bathroom products to grow quickly in these areas. The bathroom market in tier one and tier two cities tended to be mature and demand is encouraged by the growing sales of medium to premium products for upgrading bathroom and redecoration of homes. In the non-housing sector, the increasing renovation and upgrading of hotels and offices, and growing construction of new schools, hospitals, sports and recreational facilities led to the demand for medium to high end bathroom products growing quickly in 2017.

The market outlook for bathroom products in China is positive because of the expected medium to high growth of the economy, strong demands in housing RMI segment and increasing construction and refurbishment activities in non-housing sector. Despite of the slowing down of new dwelling completion, the sales to fully renovated housings will continue to grow quickly with more completion in more regions under the governments' supporting policies. In addition, the construction of new dwellings should continue to grow in tier three to tier four cities with the acceleration of urbanization and no controlling policies imposed. The housing RMI segment will continue to grow quickly with the improvement of income and ending lifespan. The acceleration of urbanization and the government's plan on improving public and commercial infrastructure will continue to boost the demands for bathroom products in the non-housing segment in the future.
