INTRODUCTION

BCC's goal in conducting this study is to provide an overview of the current and future characteristics of the global market for medical imaging technologies, which includes both the imaging systems and the contrast agents. The key objective is to present a comprehensive analysis and future direction of imaging techniques as an important tool for the usage in medical diagnostic procedures.

This report explores present and future strategies within the medical imaging technology market, which includes X-ray imaging, ultrasound, computed tomography, magnetic resonance imaging and positron emission tomography. The improvisation of the market as well as the setbacks and needs of the market are discussed in this report. The classifications, comparisons, advantages and disadvantages and usage of these types of diagnostic methods are also listed in this report.

A detailed analysis of medical imaging industry structure has been conducted. Revenues are broken down by the region and sales figures are estimated for the five-year period from 2011 through 2017.

Applications for medical imaging technologies are also discussed separately in the report, with an emphasis of the usage of the inhibitors in therapeutic categories and various disease sectors. The report also covers significant patents and their allotments in each category.

REASONS FOR DOING THIS STUDY

Extensive research and new developments in the field of medical imaging technology has improved their usage in being able to be used as a prime diagnostic tool for various diseases and other medical conditions. Modern industries continue to explore the advantages of medical imaging technologies, leading to the steady market growth due to higher production of the imaging systems. This study is an update to the one published in January 2010.

The scope of this study encompasses imaging technology in the field of medicine. BCC analyzes each imaging market and its applications, regulatory environment, technology, market projections and market shares. Technological issues include the latest trends and developments. The emerging market for enzyme inhibitors includes countries such as India, China, Japan, Korea, Taiwan, Canada, Africa, Australia and New Zealand, among others.

METHODOLOGY

Both primary and secondary research methodologies were used in preparing this study. BCC conducted a comprehensive literature search, which included technical newsletters and journals, and many other sources. Data were collected through interviews and correspondence with manufacturers of imaging systems and contrast agents technical experts. Projections were based on estimates such as the current number of end users, potential end users, mergers and acquisitions, and market trends.

INFORMATION SOURCES

Many companies were surveyed to obtain data for this study. Included were manufacturers and end users of medical imaging technologies in various types of disease sectors industries. Data were gathered from various industry sources. BCC spoke with officials within the industry, consulted newsletters, company literature, product literature and a host of technical articles, journals, indexes and abstracts. Exhaustive investigations of databases by key terminology were completed. In addition, data were compiled from current financial, trade and government sources.

ABOUT THE AUTHOR

A team of professionals in the biotechnology industry carried out this study. The project manager is Shalini S. Dewan, who holds a master's degree in pharmaceutical chemistry and has over 14 years of industry experience. Among the research topics she has covered are studies on compounds of potential pharmaceutical interest from ibuprofen and 2-naphthyl acetic acid.
