This market is forecast to grow at a compound annual growth rate (CAGR) of 43.8% through 2015, driven by increasing demand for portable devices and by the introduction of color displays and large flexible devices, reaching $8.3 billion in total revenues by 2015.
  • Revenue growth for paper-thin displays is being driven primarily by the use of these devices in portable electronic devices, such as mobile phones and e-book readers. This segment is estimated at $1.3 billion - 96.2% of all revenues - in 2010 and is expected to increase at a 44% compound annual growth rate (CAGR) to reach $8.1 billion in 2015.
  • Signs and displays for advertising will achieve a 30% compound annual growth rate (CAGR) over the 5-year forecast period. This sector was valued at $11 million in 2010 and should reach a value of nearly $44 million in 2015.

STUDY GOALS AND OBJECTIVES

Having a thickness no greater than 1.5 mm, approximating a standard sheet of paper, paper-thin displays (PTDs) represent a new generation of ultra-thin displays. PTDs are seeing broader use in applications such as portable electronic devices, automotive displays, and retail and outdoor signage.
