Herbicides are specific category of pesticides used to control unwanted plants during cultivation. They are mainly used in agricultural production and turf management. Based on mode of action, herbicides can be categorized in two types, namely, selective and non-selective. Selective herbicides are used to destroy specific targets without harming the plants. These are largely used generally in industrial sites, railways, waste ground and others. On the other hand, non-selective herbicides destroy plants. It is used in low quantity in forestry and other areas. Glyphosate is majorly used herbicide across the world among other categories. Another type of herbicide, called 2,4-D, is either banned or restricted in terms of usage in Canada, Denmark, Norway and other countries, due to its adverse effect on health and environment. Market for bio based herbicide has a promising future as it is less hazardous to crop and the natural environment.
