Abstract

The report is devoted to analysis of market of railway springs, applied in manufacture of trucks for freight wagons in Russia and CIS countries. The report includes 7 Sections, contains 80 Pages with 25 Tables and 27 Figures.

The first Section presents general concepts of spring suspension, effect of springs on characteristics of trucks, their role in providing safety of railway traffic.

Requirements, imposed on materials, used in manufacture of springs, as well as technical characteristics of the springs are described in Section 2.

Section 3 presents estimation of production of springs in Russia and Ukraine. As direct statistical data on the springs are not available, the Section describes in details proposed method of calculation of springs, produced in Russia, which is used in the following Sections for estimation of springs production in other CIS countries. For instance, calculation of demand for springs in building new freight wagons, and for repair of operating wagons is given. Besides, with presents in details information on export supplies of springs separately and also springs as parts of finished trucks. In addition, description of company-producers of springs in Ukraine is presented.

Section 4 is devoted to detailed description of Russian producers of springs.

Section 5 presents the main consumers of railway springs in Russia and Ukraine, characteristics of demand for them in the countries with the greatest volumes of freight wagons repair works.

Section 6 briefly presents comparative characteristics of domestic and export-import prices on springs, as well as prices of individual producers.

Section 7 demonstrates possible scenarios of development of transport machine building industry, the main prospects of building new productive capacities in sphere of spring production. Finally, forecast of possible development of spring manufacture up to 2015 is given.

The main information sources were materials of interviews with leading specialists of company - producers and consumers (producers of trucks) of railway springs. The offered method of calculation of consumption and production of springs on the basis of data of Federal Customs Service (FCS) and Federal Service of State Statistics (FSSS) of Russia allowed to estimate with high preciseness demand for the springs in Russia and other CIS countries. Important information was also taken from sectoral mass media and materials from library of JSC «RZhD»

Actuality of this research is determined by a number of factors:

1. Freight traffic market and freight car building market are key components of state economics, providing stable operation of any economic subjects independently of their size. Freight cars (wagons) are the main instruments of solving the transport task.

2. High degree of wearing of the cars, as well as increasing volume of railway traffic, being in force until mid-2008, determined increasing demand for new freight cars, as well as in modernising and repair of operating cars. In conditions of current financial crisis, role of the repair increases, and springs are one of important component- spare parts for freight cars.

3. Until recently, knowledge of market of railway springs was accumulated in specialized institutes or subdivisions of state corporation JSC «RZhD». At present time, when restructuring the state corporation is in progress, new players enter both freight traffic market and the car repair market, and these players are interested in detailed information about spring suspension sets for freight wagon trucks.

4. Usefulness of the research is also connected with the fact that no direct data, describing market of railway springs, are available. Methods, offered in the research, allowed to give rather high-precise estimation of the spring consumption in Russia and other CIS countries.
