Abstract

Mobile phone application ICs constitute a huge and highly attractive market. In the past, this market was dominated by a handful of leading international vendors, but recently new entrants have begun to enter the market. Several leading Taiwanese IC design houses -including MediaTek, VIA, and Sunplus -have been working actively to develop the mobile phone core IC market. They have also adopted a low-price strategy for some products, thereby threatening the dominance of the leading international IC vendors.
