Over the next five years, the combined PLD and Standard-Cell ASIC market will undergo a shift in composition from being largely defined by generated ASIC revenue, into a market in which PLDs and FPGAs have become substantial and important contributors, as a result of the migration to these devices occurring in major consuming application segments such as those found in the industrial market and in wired communications.

Total logic devices revenue for this year is expected to exceed $75 billion, constituting a 27 percent share of the overall semiconductor market. The PLD and Standard-Cell ASIC segment constitutes a 15.8 percent share of the global logic semiconductors market. The communications special purpose segment is largest for logic devices.

The PLD and Standard-Cell ASIC market consists of programmable logic devices, including CPLDs and FPGAs, along with the larger ASICs segment. For 2010, Databeans estimates a market size of $11.9 billion.
