Abstract

Summary: Highlights of this Report

Argentina, Brazil, Chile, Mexico. Size of country' s furniture market

The largest markets for the furniture sector in Latin America have been grouped in this collection of country reports entitled The furniture industry in Argentina, Brazil, Chile, Mexico.

Mexico and Brazil by far are the largest furniture manufacturers of this area and the main exporters of furniture to the United States from Latin America.

Logistics and proximity to the U.S. market are an obvious advantage driving more than 80% of Mexican products to its northerly neighbour. Brazil has a skilled work force and a number of modernized factories that are trying to become more competitive by offering new products every year and finding alternative distribution channels.

Production in Chile has grown by 8% annually during the last 7 year.

Argentina offsets a part of the decrease of the furniture production with a growth of the ratio imports/consumption.

CSIL reports on Argentina, Brazil, Chile and Mexico together offer an overview of trends and prospects for Latin America, providing information on the furniture production system and the import and export flows by country, as well as information on the factors affecting the furniture potential market and the leading companies operating in it.

Short profiles of the main furniture manufacturers and retailers are provided including information (if available) on: company headquarter (address and telephone, e-mail address and website), activity, specialization, products portfolio, brands and trademarks, year of establishment, employees, furniture sales destination, domestic market, corporate facts.

Furniture imports and furniture exports are broken down by country and product (office furniture, kitchen furniture, upholstered furniture, non-upholstered seats, bedroom furniture, seats parts and parts of furniture).

The wood and forestry sector is also considered: production, imports, exports and consumption data are provided for sawnwood and wood based panels.

Data on woodworking machinery imports are available for some of the considered countries.

Products covered include: office furniture, bedroom furniture, kitchen furniture, upholstered furniture, non-upholstered seats, wood furniture, metal furniture, parts of furniture and seats, sawnwood, wood-based panels, woodworking machinery.
