Abstract
FMC (Fixed Mobile Convergence) has become one of the hottest topics in
telecommunications. In-Stat believes that FMC is viewed as an efficient way to
provide a unified architecture and end-user devices with multi-service
capabilities. The convergent systems can provide voice, data, or multimedia
services for and between any set of wireline and wireless end-users. In this
report, In-Stat describes the roadmap of FMC in China, and provides subscriber
forecasts (2006-2010) on FMC service.
The report also provides clear definitions and classifications of FMC and
divides the whole process of FMC into three phases: dual-mode end device
convergence, IP/MPLS backbone network convergence, and IMS-based convergence.
In addition, the benefits to service providers and end-users from FMC, and the
multiple challenges that service providers face in evolving to the new system
are outlined, providing perspectives and strategies of the four leading China
service providers (China Telecom, China Mobile, China Unicom, and China
Netcom), with respect to FMC.
