Abstract

The total Asia/Pacific broadband access service market is envisaged to reach a subscriber population of 235.84 million by 2011, up from 86.63 million in 2005, representing a CAGR of 18.2%, stemming mainly from developing markets such as China, India, Indonesia, the Philippines, Malaysia, and Thailand. The broadband access services market revenue was valued at US$20.7 billion in 2005 and is expected to reach US$55.1 billion by 2011. Tier-1 markets Japan and South Korea contributed more than 60% of total revenue in 2005. This was followed by the Tier-2 markets of Hong Kong, Taiwan, Australia, and Singapore, contributing around 15%.

In-Stat discovered that the rate of growth in penetration of broadband services in mature markets like Japan, South Korea, Hong Kong, Taiwan, and Singapore has slowed and could slow further after several years of rapid growth. We also witnessed a decreasing total dial-up population in these markets.

In less developed markets like China and India, the total broadband access services markets are expected to continue an impressive growth over the forecast period and constitute the bulk of Asia/Pacifics broadband subscriber population expansion.

Transcending boundaries encourage the creation of virtual communities and the exchange of information in various forms.
